Overview

The Min/Max Nights tab within a unit's settings allows you to establish guidelines regulating the duration of a guest's stay. With a minimum nights rule, you require reservations to meet the specified minimum number of nights. A maximum nights rule requires reservations to not exceed the specified maximum nights. Setting up each rule only takes a few clicks. Check out the quick process below.

Create a Minimum or Maximum Night Rule

On Firefly's main menu, go to Settings > Units.

Click on any unit to open it > click on the Min/Max Nights tab > click a button to add a rule.

A pop-up opens to enter your settings for the rule.

  1. Set the active period for the dates you will require minimum or maximum nights.
  2. Enter the number of nights.
  3. Confirm days included in the rule. Note, all days of the week are checked by default.
    • If the active period is a brief, one time occurrence or you require restrictions for all days in a longer period, leave all days checked. You will leave all days checked to include every day in a holiday weekend, special event week, or to permanently require the rule for the entire active period - as we often see with a 2 night permanent minimum in lodging or an absolute 30 day maximum for some park units.
    • If you desire a repeat, specified restriction over a longer period, use a longer active period and uncheck the days to exclude. For example, if setting up a 2 night minimum only on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer you would set the active period as the whole summer and uncheck all days except Friday and Saturday. With Friday and Saturday checked, you are requiring a 2 night minimum for all Fridays and Saturdays during the extended active period.
  4. Save your rule to apply the nights in stay requirement to this unit.
  5. Repeat the process for all minimum or maximum night rules you need. Be sure to remember all holidays or special events and any unit class policies. For example, a 2 night minimum for all cabins or a 30 day maximum for all short-term units.
  6. Once you have all desired rules on one unit, you may export the Min/Max Nights to other units using the Import/Export tool. See this article for more: Import or Export Unit Settings

TIP: When updating rates for a new season or new year, be sure to update your Min/Max Nights tab as well.

Advanced Rule Options

To help you fully maximize occupancy and profits, you may setup advanced rule options in both minimum and maximum night rules. The option allows you to automatically bypass your stay requirements if a unit is still available as an arrival date approaches. For example, if you require a 3 night minimum for holiday weekends but you have one unit still available on a Thursday before the holiday, you may use the advanced rule option to allow a shorter booking.

To utilize the option, simply click Show advanced rule options as seen below.

The pop-up box will extend to show you Days until reservation starts. Enter 0 for the day of arrival, 1 for the day before arrival, and so on. The example below shows a bypass of the rule on the day before or day of arrival.

If you only wanted to allow reservations bypassing the rule on the day of arrival, you would set both the minimum and maximum to 0.

Sample Rules

This minimum night rule requires at least 2 nights for a stay on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday from Oct 25-Dec 6. If a guest's reservation includes any of the checked days, the reservation must be a minimum of 2 nights.

Continuing with the 2 night minimum example above, we see using the advanced rule options will allow all stays if the unit is still available the day of or day before arrival.
